I am an Associate Professor of Language, Rhetoric, and Writing Studies at the University of Washington Tacoma. As a scholar and teacher, everything I do revolves around an interest in how language is a tool for social action.
My scholarship and teaching reflect an interest in the problems generated by the dynamic nature of language, visual imagery, and technology. I am particularly interested in how people negotiate digital spaces to connect with (and exclude) others.
I am devoted to helping people to gain the necessary literacies to find connection and belonging in the physical and digital worlds they wish to inhabit.
My research has been published in such journals as Visual Communication, Narrative Inquiry, and The Journal of Interactive Technology and Pedagogy.
